Massage Therapy involves applying manual pressure and manipulation to the muscles, connective tissue, ligaments, tendons and joints. It controls pain by breaking the pain cycle and eliminating the original source of the pain by increasing blood flow to blood deprived tissue. It improves circulation by causing an immediate dilation of capillaries and vessels which affects the nervous system. The result is reduced: muscle tension, trigger points, fibrosis, adhesions and anxiety and improved: posture, tissue health and relaxation.

Massage Therapy is used for injury prevention, pain relief, muscle release, ongoing stress management and can help your overall sense of physical and emotional well-being.

Registered Massage Therapists in British Columbia are health care professionals committed to restoring and maintaining optimal health and the pain-free function of the body. RMTs work with patients to help maintain and regain their quality of life.

Massage Therapy is the assessment of the body's soft tissues and joints and the treatment and prevention of dysfunction, injury, pain and physical disorders of the soft tissues and joints. Massage Therapists use techniques that can dramatically increase pain-free movement and improve a patient's ability to perform the activities of daily living. RMTs promote health by teaching patients therapeutic exercises, encouraging better postural habits for work, sport, leisure or sleep.

From the weekend athlete with an acute injury to the arthritic geriatric patient who is chronically disabled, people benefit from massage therapy as they return to previous levels of activity and productivity. Trained Massage Therapists are highly competent health care professionals with a large array of powerful therapeutic techniques at their disposal and the knowledge and skills to apply them effectively and safely. Massage Therapy is useful in restoring mobility, improving muscle strength, endurance, tone and flexibility and lessening the discomfort associated with chronic disorders. Registered Massage Therapists' extensive training allows them to meet a wide range of health care needs from injury rehabilitation to prevention and maintenance of overall health.

Scientific research supports the use of massage therapy as an effective approach in pain and injury management, rehabilitation and prevention. It has been found to be more effective in increasing blood flow than moderate exercise. Massage therapy techniques decrease blood pressure and heart rate. Massage therapists use techniques that can act directly on pain receptors, either at a peripheral or central nervous system level. Pain relief can also be obtained by the increase of range of motion and the release of myofascial trigger points. Massage therapy is a low risk and highly effective form of treatment.

Assess and address your areas of concern using multiple techniques to relieve tension and pain. Massage Therapists use Swedish Massage along with many other techniques such as Neuromuscular Facilitation (NMT), Trigger Point Therapy and Fascial Release in addition to therapeutic exercise, stretching and postural education in an average massage therapy visit. The techniques act directly upon the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems to rehabilitate physical injuries and improve health. Neuromuscular treats trigger points or specific areas of neural activity to break cycles of spasm and pain. The goal is balance between the nervous system and the musculoskeletal system through the treatment of dysfunctional biomechanics, postural distortion, lack of blood flow, trigger points and nerve compression. Results are increased range of motion, reduced local pain, helps restore pain-free movement, improves local circulation, breaks down fascial adhesions, decreased pain referrals and promotes faster tissue healing.

A deeper technique that addresses underlying chronic/acute pain at necessary tissue levels for the return to optimal health and activity. A powerful technique for rehabilitating soft tissue dysfunctions as a result of sports, daily repetitive activities or prolonged sitting. Deep Tissue Massage provides optimum relief from overuse and encourages natural blood circulation and lymph flow which stimulates the circulatory system and dramatically increases much needed oxygen flow throughout the body. This increased oxygen promotes greater flexibility, improved range of motion and lowers susceptibility to muscle injury and strain. It is designed to relieve restrictions, tension and pain in the deep muscles and connective tissue. This form of manual therapy is particularly effective for individuals who are involved in activities that require physical exertion or careers that create unnatural postural positions such as computer work. The result is pain relief and restored movement.

Slow, repetitive and rhythmical techniques on the more superficial layers of muscles that decrease nervous system firing to achieve a relaxing effect. Increases circulation and the levels of oxygen in the blood, decreases toxins and improves flexibility. It promotes healthy functioning of your lymph system by directly stimulating and relaxing your muscles which flushes metabolic wastes such as lactic acid and uric acid from your muscles. This shortens recovery time and helps you feel better faster.

It's no secret that as an athlete, your body takes more wear and tear than a typical sedentary lifestyle. As such, our sports massages are designed for those with a more active lifestyle and are a unique blend of deep tissue work, fascia stretching, and other techniques.

As part of your training program, routine sports massages will help to correct tight muscles and other chronic pain that could be limiting your performance.

Massage is typically used before, during or after athletic events. The purpose is to prepare the athlete for peak performance, decrease fatigue, relieve swelling, reduce muscle tension, promote flexibility and prevent injuries.

Your pregnancy can be one of the most magical times of your life, but even this beauty comes with a price - drastic changes in your body. Our prenatal massage will help you stretch hard-to-reach muscles and react to the shifting of your body's gravity.

Promotes a healthier pregnancy by decreasing spasms in the low back, swelling and anxiety. RMT’s use techniques to decrease muscle tension related to postural changes and ligament laxity as well as to improve circulation and drainage. It promotes relaxation, soothes nerves, relieves strained back, sciatica, legs, neck and headaches. Massage Therapy is the natural way to reduce stress and achieve an overall sense of well-being. Cushions are used that are designed for a pregnant belly and to allow lying facedown.
